Let’s talk about outdoor winter training sessions. During the winter we tend to want to shorten our time outdoors since the winter winds like to freeze your training hands off. So here are my quick tips to help burn some energy out of your dog quicker and to keep them happy and safe. If your out for a walk I suggest adding a little backpack to your dogs repertoire. Starting with no weight to get them comfortable and adding a little bit at time over the course of a month. I use water bottles and add a little water each week to give my dog a job to do and wear her out. I also highly recommend simple dog boots to keep the toxic painful road salt off their delicate paws. I love sled dog boots as opposed to those cheaply made formed boots. I purchase them from my favorite boot company. I also highly recommend my favorite dog backpack. Its lightweight but doesn’t slide around on your dogs back. You can easily add velcro reflective patches if your going to be out at night after work with your dog.
